6 Common Misconceptions About Natural Skin Care

If you’ve been paying close attention for the past few years, you probably noticed an increase in demand for everything natural, organic, and green. The green movement has influenced our lives and affected everything we do from the way we dispose of our waste to how we shop for groceries. The beauty industry is no exception.

Today, you can find natural skin care products just about anywhere you look, but just as new movements arise, there are misconceptions that follow.

Here are 6 of the most common misconceptions about natural skin care.

1. It works miracles

No B.S. Miracle WorkerSo, we’re not saying that natural skin care products aren’t effective. We’re just saying that they’re not the end all, be all to perfect skin. As you take care of your outside, you also need to be conscious of your inside. What you’re eating and drinking can be a huge factor in your outer appearance.

Basically, as long as you’re putting in the work on your end, your natural skin care products can meet you halfway and leave you with an envious glow.

2. They’re not powerful enough

If you’ve been using a certain product your whole life, it's understandable that you would think the ingredients of that product are the reason for your smooth skin. It may or may not be, but that doesn’t justify the need to saturate your skin with sulfates and petrochemicals.

Believe it or not, you can find a lot of natural skin care products that are just as effective because they’re not watered down with the same ol’ bullshit ingredients.

3. They’re not for all skin types

Skin TypesWe can’t speak for every natural skin care product out there, but No B.S. products are gentle and powerful enough to tackle your skin concerns regardless of your skin type. The way we see it, skin is skin. So any product we make only contains the essentials, and none of the fluff.

Of course, every skin type has a certain routine that they need to follow, but there’s no reason you shouldn’t add natural products into the mix.

4. Oils clog your skin

People, especially those with oily skin, tend to veer away from any product with oil. All they think of is a greasy face with all of its inglorious effects: acne, shiny T-zones, and more acne. But here’s the thing, oils can be great for your face. You just have to know what you’re looking for.

The secret here is non-comedogenic. This means that the product will not clog pores, which is what causes blackheads and acne. Next time you see natural skin care products with oils, look for that secret word to make sure your skin stays clear.

5. D.I.Y. methods are just as effective as natural products

D.I.Y. Skin Care

There is a blurred line between using natural skin care products and making your own at home. We encourage D.I.Y. beauty, as long as it works for you, but there’s a reason you probably won’t see the same results from an at-home beauty regimen than from a manufactured product.

Although the ingredients can actually be natural in manufactured products, there are also ingredients that boost the effects of the natural ones and help your skin absorb the good stuff.

6. It’s too expensive

Think of it this way. If you buy a car on craigslist for $1,800, would you expect it to purr with a brand new motor and run like a dream? Probably not. The same concept applies when purchasing drugstore beauty products. They’re affordable, but they’re not always effective.

You would have to use twice as much of the product to get the same effects as a natural product, meaning you have to repurchase more frequently. So you actually end up paying more in the long run.

If safe and effective skin care is something you’re looking for, don’t be afraid to experiment with a new brand that offers natural options and get ready to feel the difference on your skin.
